Your Job Search Just Got A Little Tougher

As if the economic downturn wasn’t enough of a challenge for you to overcome…

Normally I try to post information for new graduates who are trying to land their first job, but this article came through my Feed Reader today and it caught my eye. It is for a new service called The Resumator.

What is The Resumator you ask? Well, according to the website, it is an online software application designed to allow businesses to advertise open positions, manage open jobs, and most importantly…

The Resumator reduces the stress of reviewing resumes by storing all your resumes in one place, each one automatically sorted by job, indexed for full text searches, and made viewable in the browser—no downloads or fancy software required.

So what does this mean to you, the job applicant? It means that your job search just got a little tougher.

With traditional paper resumes, a recruiter would be forced to scan through hundreds of resumes from job seekers. With the advent of electronic resumes, the job became easier. But this new service appears to allow the software to do some of the heavy lifting when if comes to evaluating resumes. It seems as though it will index and search submitted resumes (much like a search engine would) for desirable information. This has the potential to significantly reduce the vetting time required by recruiters. So if your resume doesn’t contain information relevant to the job, your application package isn’t even going to get looked at.

So what can you do to improve your results? Simple. Ensure that you tailor your resume and cover letter to each specific job that you apply to. Also, be sure to include the keywords that are in the job posting. And, if you can, include only those experiences that are most relevant to the job.

Either way, it is always good to know what you are up against. Check out The Resumator and be sure to tailor your resume and cover letter to suit the job.

Now if it only didn’t sound like a bad action movie

Comments? We would love to hear from you!
