When interviewing, listening is just as important as speaking. Many things can be learned just by listening to an interviewer and observing their body language.
While the ability to speak confidently in an interview is key to landing a job, listening is a lost art which can improve your chances overall.
When applying for a job online, be sure to use keywords from the job posting in your resume and cover letter. This improves the chances of your resume being selected by recruiting software (which scans electronic files for keywords to help narrow down candidates).
Be on the lookout for keywords that apply to both skills and experience. For instance, “AutoCAD” would be a tangible skill which may be mentioned in a job posting if you are a new engineer . However, if you have “Computer Aided Design” experience on your resume instead, the software may not pick it up and you could be passed by.
Adding these keywords can add time to your application process, but it should help boost your success rate.
