I wish I could have watched the inauguration today, but unfortunately my job had other ideas. So while I was sitting in a client’s conference room miles away from home, the United States was swearing in a new President.
So I am now sitting in my hotel room reflecting on the day’s events and wondering what impact, if any, the new President will have on your job search.
Sadly, given the market’s reaction, I’m not very optimistic.
President Obama rallied around the message of hope and change, and the American population grabbed hold and didn’t let go. Everyone is convinced that this is the start of a positive new chapter for the global economy. Unfortunately, no one mentioned this to Wall Street.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 332 points today, and I must admit, I was a little shocked. I did expect that the jubilation over the newly inaugurated President to spill over into the markets, if only temporarily, but it just didn’t happen.
So what does this mean for your job search? It means that there is no instant relief coming. It is still going to be an uphill battle to land an Entry Level Job. It’s not to say that it is impossible, but you will have to work a little harder to get it.
Things will turn around, but it will take time. Sadly, as good as Obama will likely be for America, he isn’t an overnight fix.
