T.J.Maxx began as a spinoff store of the discount retail chain, Zayre. The first location went up in Framingham, MA in 1976. The department store chain offers discounted brand-name fashions and accessories for men, women, children, and even infants. After parent company Zayre disbanded in 1988, T.J.Maxx continued to thrive, officially forming TJX Companies. As one of the largest department store companies in the United States, T.J.Maxx operates over 900 locations in America and around the world, with international stores in Puerto Rico, Ireland, Poland, and Germany.
While T.J.Maxx jobs do not represent a slew of individual positions, employment with the department store chain comes with numerous duties. Sales associates meet and greet customers that come in the store throughout the day. Store associates help customers find products, organize shelves and racks, and occasionally ring out purchases. Other positions, such as loss prevention, night stock, and manager jobs, require either time already spent working for T.J.Maxx or some experience in the department store industry. Many employees start work with T.J.Maxx on a part-time schedule or on the way to much more lucrative opportunities. T.J.Maxx understands this fact but still needs workers who will put forth effort during their time with the company.
