Job Hunting – 2009 Style

Career Builder had another interesting article come up the other day. How to Job Search in 2009 looks at a few modern techniques that candidates are using when looking for a job. While Web 2.0 staples such as blogging and social networking hit the list, it also covers the single most important element in your job search: standing out from the crowd.

I have always believed that this is the key difference maker when it comes to finding your first job. Anybody can write a letter, or list their education and experiences, but unless you want your application to be cast aside, or to be shown the door after an underwhelming interview, you need to find ways to set yourself apart.

Now, the examples listed in this article are a bit extreme, but they do make a point: sometimes, no matter how you get noticed, getting remembered is what counts. Lets just hope that you get noticed in a positive way, and not for some absurd stunt. Do you really want to be remembered as the person who brought a broom to the interview?
