Just read about Evan Culver’s resignation from Mahalo on TechCrunch. Normally an employee leaving a startup isn’t news, but in this case, you get to see what happens when the boss overreacts.

I won’t spoil the surprise, but suffice it to say, after sending a perfectly reasonable resignation note to his boss and coworkers, his manager flipped out.

You have to read it to believe it.

Personally, I really like this move. It’s nice to see high powered executives broadcast their personal thoughts to the world. He seems like a pretty cool guy.

I think if I ever leave my job, I’ll try to do the same thing.

Unless, of course, you are independently wealthy.

But for the rest of us, we need to work to get by. So when I read Don’t Call Off Job Search Until An Offer Is In Hand, it made me think about one of my personal rules: Never quit a job without another one lined up to take its place.

While this article focuses on putting your job search on hold while you are unemployed (and expecting an offer), it also applies to those of you who are looking to move on to your next position.

I think that the author summed it up best with:

Never take anything for granted. The deal is never complete until its signed, sealed and delivered.

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

I just finished reading a fantastic open letter written by Jessica Ward to her boss after being laid off. I expected it to be a profanity-laden tirade, but instead, I found a wonderful example about how many of us can get too caught up in the world of work.

I know that not having a job while needing a job can be stressful, but I just wanted to take the opportunity to share a piece of writing that makes me remember not to take the most important things in life for granted.

Please read Dear John, Thanks for the Layoff, if only for a “pick-me-up”.
